Reece Oxford
During the weekend Southgate had scouts looking over Reece Oxford performance For FC Augsburg who was playing against Bayern Munich. On accounts it was said he put in a good shift in having to put the shackles on Lewandowski (arguably the best centre forward in Europe & Golden boot winner ), in the end beating the Bundesliga current leaders.

No doubt Southgate would now believe Oxford could be a alternative to Harry Maguire. He was once labelled as the next Rio - and was the second youngest hammer to play in the Premiership In yet we sold off for a mire £2 Million.

Damn it we would certainly need him now!

Re: Reece Oxford
And we got Declan rice free from Chelsea

And we lost Jeremy Ngakia to Watford

And we promoted Ben Johnson from the youth set up.

Swings a s roundabouts. You can’t keep them all, it’s not Pokemon

Re: Reece Oxford
Seemed like he needed 6 years to realise he had to actually work hard to make it. It’s not been a quick fix out there either.

He seems to have had to leave the Uk to progress and good luck to him.

Re: Reece Oxford
Sounds like he may well be a "late developer" after his career stumbled for 4 or 5 years but playing well in the Bundislega does not necessarily mean he could cut it in the Premiership week in, week out? That said, if we are looking at getting Rudiger in perhaps the German league is not to shabby? :-) And then again, Haller was a big star in that league but fell flat on his arse with us. We let Oxford go because he just was not developing. Seemed the right decision at the time. As Chelsea also well know , and it happens a lot that a player let go does well later on to make letting him go then look foolhardy.

Funny old game?

Re: Reece Oxford
Yes no regrets Oxford went. He wouldn’t have made it staying with us. He needed to play in a team. Had to go and find his place. Good luck to him if he really does come through.

Re: Reece Oxford
We'd have wasted 6 years paying this lazy big head £20 a week in the hope he'd finally realise he's not made it and actually still had to put some graft in.

No ta. Good luck to him. The German league is shit.

Bossed it against Arsenal in midfield at the age of 16.

Not really sure why he didn’t push on. Probably to do with Bilic being a clueless cunt.

Re: Reece Oxford
We gave him the chances he never took them it was like we was below his expectations, we went instead with Declan who took his chances.

Perhaps lockdowns and being in germany through them got him to focus on his weaknesses?

Re: Reece Oxford
He was good in that Arsenal game, got a lot of praise, given a big salary for a kid and stories were it went to his head and he did not do well with all that in his rapidly growing big head...

Re: Reece Oxford
Thought it was common knowledge he was shipped out due to his attitude.

With the best team spirit I’ve seen since I’ve been going, I don’t care how good it he is, I make it the right decision

Augsburg vs Bayern is practically a local derby. This fixture often throws up surprises.
I’m sure Reece Oxford played his part but I wouldn’t read too much into this.

Re: Reece Oxford
Good luck to him. Saw interview recently and he spoke well. Pretty much admitted he needed to move away to test hinself.

We basically thought Rice was the better option - for variety of reason. There was no way both could come through at same time.

Re: Reece Oxford
FC Augsburg have the 4th worst defensive record in the German league.

It would be nice to find out we've got a buy back clause for such little money for him if he does turn out great, but I wouldn't be rushing out to get him just yet.

Re: Reece Oxford
Well it is said that we are still after Tarkowski but his team is currently the relegation zone. I have my doubts on him.

I too hope that we have either set a side a buy back/ transfer profit sell on clause, but no doubt we have over look on that point when we sold him.

Re: Reece Oxford
To think Burnley originally wanted £40 million for Tarkowski but we got Dawson instead for £2 million whose done a good job for us so far. Tarkowski is not worth 20 times more then Dawson. the odd thing also Burnley would have replaced Tarkowski with Dawson!!!

Maybe Dyche knows something that Moyes don't about Tarkowski!

Re: Reece Oxford
I saw him several times for the U23's . He was class and above everyone on the pitch . He needed the right guidance . He stumbled through frustration I feel and possibly not having a best mate like Rice did with Mount enormsley helped each other.

Re: Reece Oxford
I’m guessing the £20 million difference between Tarkowski & Dawson is the difference between staying up and relegation. I now have trust in our manager to pick the right characters after the choice he made with Dawson. Ogbonna was often in the relegation zone with us…..
